I realize that the title of this post is titled “Home Grown” but let’s just get some facts straight. I love gardening! The idea of growing something that can sustain your life really interests me. But, I suck at it! I had an herb garden that was thriving and then I took it to college and they have now all withered and died. I think it’s because it’s too cold in my house. I don’t know? Help?
Luckily for me, Menomonie has an amazing farmer’s market. It’s a lot bigger than I thought it would have been! It makes sense though since there’s a lot of farmers around here and they all drive in on Saturday and sell all their goodies.
I like to make Ryan wake up at the crack of dawn, 8 am, with me so that we can walk there and I can buy things for the week! Unfortunately he doesn’t like all the vegetables there so I never end up buying a lot but this week I bought some potatoes and a acorn squash. I’m super excited to cook them up to eat this week!
Ever since I’ve started trying to reduce my footprint, I’ve been buying more locally or I got a membership at the Co-Op or I started my own compost pile. It just makes me feel really good about the choices that I’m making and how they’re impacting the world. I just feel as if I shouldn’t make the world harder to live in for anyone else. If that means being environmentally friendly, then that’s what I’ll do.
I would just really encourage you all to go shopping at the Farmer’s Market, not only are they good deals but you’re helping out your local economy which is always a good thing!
